I Found Stairs!

Soooo...the stairs were the scariest part of the whole flooring extravaganza.  I was just about to embark on my first real construction project when I found...wooden stairs under the carpet!!!!  I was more than excited.  Then I got gutsy and decided to look at the stairs leading downstairs and I found TILE!  Love. Overall, a fabulous afternoon.  Now to start cleaning...

Here is a picture of what it looked like in the beginning:

First we took down the rail. My goal is to make the style of the house continuous. The rail really did not go with open feeling of our main floor.

All cleaned up after scrubbing, spackling, sanding and taping, I am ready for my favorite part.  Paint!  I decided to use the trim color in my house for the risers on the stairs.

All done!!!  I also painted the red tile by the stairs.  Pictures on Monday!

Martha Knows Everything

I love a little afternoon craft project! After looking at all of Martha Stewart's fabulous ideas, a friend and I decided to try one for ourselves - putting some color in our candles!

Two ingredients required: crayons and wax. Martha suggested beeswax, but we got crazy and went with paraffin and it totally worked! It was also WAY cheaper.

Just put the desired amount of wax in a crock pot with about half of a crayon that you like, wait for it to melt, and start the fun!

Here is what we came up with....

This is a super cute way to change up your room and give new life to your old boring candles.

Thanks Martha!

Have a great day everyone!

Lovely Day.

I have found my happy place! My friend Seth and I went to door and window heaven! Not only do they have fabulous old doors, but they do custom re-creations as well. If you are ever in Cullman, you should totally go check it out.  Visit them online here:  http://www.antiques-architectural.com

The upstairs of one of the many rooms full of fun!

I could have looked at these for a few hours, but Seth was MUCH less interested than me.

Beautiful!

I love these! My plan for these little guys (if I can find enough) is to put them along the edge of my back planter and have the planter FULL of tall wildflowers. A girl's gotta dream right?

So much fun! SUCH a fun afternoon! I suggest you go if you have time.
